What is the Sunsphere?
The Sunsphere is an iconic part of the Knoxville skyline. The Sunsphere was built in 1982 for the World’s Fair and since then has become a destination for locals and Knoxville visitors. The fourth-floor observation deck offers 360-degree views of downtown Knoxville, The University of Tennessee, and the Smoky Mountains.
What can you do at the Sunsphere?
360 Degree Views:
Visitors can take the elevator to the observation deck to see panoramic 360-degree views of Knoxville. From the fourth floor you can see the Tennessee River, The University of Tennessee campus, and the Smoky Mountains.
Learn the history of the 1982 World’s Fair:
Visitors to the Sunsphere today can explore a variety of exhibits to learn about the history of the 1982 World’s Fair. There are various displays with memorabilia from the World’s Fair as well as vintage photographs and videos.
Shop for Souvenirs:
The Sunsphere has a small gift shop on the observation floor. Profits go towards maintaining this historic building.

Admission: Tickets are $5 for adults; kids 12 and under are $1 (with a paying adult)

The Sunsphere Observation Deck is closed daily from 1:30-2:30 for an employee meal break.
