Considering moving to Knoxville, Tennessee? Knoxville experiences all four seasons! You’ll enjoy colorful fall foliage, occasional snow days in winters, warm summer days, and streets lined with blooming dogwoods in the spring.

Winter (December-February):
Knoxville winters are relatively mild, with temperatures typically ranging from 30-50°F. While we do get the occasional snow or ice storm, it’s usually light and short-lived. However, it’s enough to transform the city into a picturesque winter scene. If you’re moving from a colder climate, you’ll appreciate our milder winters, but you’ll still get to enjoy some winter activities:
- Skiing and Snowboarding at Ober Gatlinburg in the Smoky Mountains
- Ice skating at seasonal rinks
- Enjoying festive light displays and holiday events around the city
Spring (March-May):
The city comes alive with blooming flowers and trees, and temperatures pleasantly rise to 60-70°F. This season is perfect for:
- Hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains to see stunning wildflower displays
- Attending the famous Dogwood Arts Festival
- Exploring Knoxville’s numerous parks and outdoor spaces
Summer (June-September):
Prepare for hot and humid summers, with temperatures often reaching the 90s. While it can be intense, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the season:
- Cooling off by kayaking, tubing, or paddle-boarding on nearby rivers and lakes
- Attending outdoor concerts and food festivals
- Escaping to the cooler temperatures of the Great Smoky Mountains
Fall (Late October-November)
Many consider fall the most beautiful season in Knoxville. The city and surrounding areas burst into vibrant autumn colors, and temperatures cool to a comfortable 60-70°F. As a new resident, you can look forward to:
- Taking scenic drives to see the fall foliage colors throughout the region
- Enjoying family-friendly events like Boo at the Zoo
- Participating in local fall festivals, such as Tennessee Fall Festival at the Museum of Appalachia
- Visiting local pumpkin patches and corn mazes
