Sequoyah Hills: One of Knoxville’s Most Historic Neighborhoods

Sequoyah Hills has played a key role in Knoxville’s residential history since the early 1900s. Known for its large homes, tree-lined streets, and proximity to Fort Loudoun Lake, it remains one of the city’s most well-known and established neighborhoods.

A Neighborhood with Deep Roots

This area began as one of Knoxville’s earliest planned neighborhoods and has grown through multiple additions and expansions, including:

  • Elmwood Place

  • Cherokee Gardens

  • Scenic Drive

  • Kingston Park

  • Hillvale

  • Alta Vista

  • Lakeview and many others

The result is a neighborhood with a mix of architectural styles and home types, including multi-family properties like Sequoyah Square Condos and Sequoyah Terrace Condos.

Parks and Outdoor Space

At the heart of the neighborhood is Sequoyah Park, an 87-acre space along the water that’s popular for:

  • Walking and running

  • Biking

  • Relaxing by the lake

Just west of the main park is Talahi Park, a smaller stone park built in the 1920s. It features a short walking path, benches, and a stone shelter. The gated layout makes it a comfortable play area for kids and pets.

Springtime on the Dogwood Arts Trail

In 1955, Sequoyah Hills became the first neighborhood included in the Dogwood Arts Trail, a seasonal route that now includes 13 neighborhoods across Knoxville. Each spring, blooming dogwoods bring visitors to the neighborhood for walking, biking, and scenic drives.

Location and School Zoning

Sequoyah Hills is located near the University of Tennessee, UT Medical Center, and downtown Knoxville. Residents have quick access to Kingston Pike, grocery stores, and local shops.

The neighborhood is zoned for:

  • Sequoyah Elementary

  • Bearden Middle

Sequoyah Hills continues to be a highly regarded neighborhood, offering a mix of historic homes, lakeside parks, and central Knoxville access.
