FOOTHILLS PARKWAY

Come to East Tennessee and experience the prettiest drive in America.

It has certainly taken a long time, but this drive has been well worth the 75 year wait. The Foothills Parkway project was approved by Congress in 1944 and was planned to be a 72 mile scenic route with magnificent views stretching from Chilhowee Lake to Cosby, TN. Almost 40 miles of the parkway has been completed with a 33 continuous mile tour from Chilhowee to Wears Valley, TN.

This section offers many interesting vantage points, pull-offs of sweeping mountain and valley views, hiking trails and 9 bridges that are simply technological miracles that seem to effortlessly float around the hills and curves.

The Parkway is administered by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This unbelievable highway will, no doubt, draw even millions more visitors to the Smokies. Look Rock hiking trail is a short, 15 minute, hike that ends in a concrete overlook that wows you with 360 degree views of the mountains, valleys and towns. This is the highest point on the western section of Chilhowee Mountain. Clingmans Dome and Mount LeConte are just 2 of the high peaks that are visible on a clear day.

You can easily access the parkway in Wears Valley or between Maryville and Townsend.
