21st Century Report Card - Tennessee Comprehensive
Assessment Program - A nationally normed achievement test is
administered annually to Tennessee students in elementary and middle
grades. This achievement test is a part of the Tennessee Comprehensive
Assessment Program (TCAP). The test includes questions designed for
comparison to national norms and questions designed to indicate mastery of
specific concepts. The norm-referenced subtests assess skills in math,
reading, language, science, social studies, study skills and spelling. The
criterion-referenced questions measure how well students have mastered the
language arts and math curriculum objective taught in Tennessee schools.
The 1998 school year marked the ninth administration of the TCAP
achievement test. Results form the spring 1998 administration demonstrated
Tennessee's students to be performing above the 50th national percentile
in all subjects and all grades tested. The text and data included within
this document was taken from the State of
Tennessee Education Report Card 98.
